The best job I've worked on this year.

First my thanks to Sean for hooking me up with this great job
We spent three intense location days: 2 on the Jersey shore, and 1 down in lower Manhattan around the court buildings and then later in Soho/Little Italy, shooting a 90's super model, with an Italian photographer and his team, for a large format fashion magazine that should be out in the next 2 months.
Myself and the other assistant got hired for this job because we had the "old school" experience and skill sets currently not found with most new or younger assistants.
It was great to be on set with professionals again, Nothing better than a physically and mentally challenging day to make you feel alive and get you back in shape.
It was so good I lost 8 Lbs. in those 3 days. Which is amazing in itself as anyone from my past with knowledge of my caloric intake cant attest too.

Now I'm not a fan of carrying around a boat anchor to do a location job but I have to admit that these Vero A4 packs absolutely 'Kicked Ass'.
They demonstrated the longest battery life of any portable flash unit I have used to date. And the ability to have full usage of a modeling light while shooting or when need for extended periods was a great option. Not to mention the usual consistency that Broncolor strobes are known for.
the only low part of this job was the 2 producers who spent more time trying to fix a poorly produced shoot when not talking about how 1 of them used to be a model.
They brought on 6-8 "production people" (it was hard to tell which none working body belonged to whom) who spent more time off set smoking  or standing around texting, or hoovering (yes, as in vacuum) the catering and when ever asked to help out with moving or carrying items to/from the set would disappear.
Strange that the producers should complain the loudest about the overtime yet this could have been avoided if there own people had actually made themselves available to everyone involved with the shoot.
More than any time I've ever experienced at every location in Manhattan we had paparazzi and hundreds of people with cell phone cameras shooting away.
Some so brazen as to walk on set and start shooting next to the photographer.
"Hey production"! "You missed one"
I think the only way to combat this in the future is to go  to the extra trouble and expense of setting up 12x12 'black outs' or 'duvi's' on frame and rolling stands to section off the shoot site.
Because even with a police presence people on the street don't listen or understand that your trying to do a job.
And those paparazzi images could be found on the internet 12 hours after we finished shooting.
It's pretty fukked up when a company spends around $300,000.00 and probably more, on an amazing production and some scavenger comes along grabs shots on your dime.

Can you differentiate between the White Cyc image shot using ProFoto studio strobes and the White Cyc image shot with DynaLite Studio strobes? (see untouched images below.)
During the course of our Photo Assistant Boot Camp which we held this past weekend, we did an experiment in which the attendees set up and color corrected a white Cyc using DynaLite and ProFoto studio strobes.

Shoot details:
Location: Sand Box Studio NYC - Studio #2 Cyc dimensions 20 W X 24 Deep
Camera: Canon 1DS MKIII  shot tethered.
Digital Capture program: Phase One Capture One Pro V.4.6
Background:  F/16.0   Color Temp: 5500K
Foreground:  F/  "to taste"   Color Temp: 4850k
